Boxgirls & Malala

Boxgirls stands for girls’ education. Boxgirls stands with Malala.

Over 60 million girls are missing out on education. They have to work, are married early, or have to care for younger siblings.  Even when girls are in school, they are often treated differently from boys.

The aim of our “Boxgirls stands with Malala” project is to raise awareness about girls’ education among German children and youth. During community and school events children learn the extraordinary story of  the children’s activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai. The young girl from Pakistan who was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman at the age of 14, became an international symbol of the fight for girls education. Children will discuss the most important topics around girls’ education, challanges and obstacles that girls and women in many countries have to face on their education path. Girls and boys make drawings about what education means to them and spread the word about the importance of girls’ education among their peers.
